The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE), the flagship company of the Karnataka based Sandur Group, incorporated in 1954. Company is involved in mining of low phosphorous manganese and iron ore in the Hosapete Ballari region of Karnataka. In addition, Company manufactures ferro-alloys (silico-Manganese and ferro manganese) and coke at its plant in Vyasankare, near Hospet. [1] It is the 3rd Largest Manganese ore miner in India. [2]
SMIORE is an integrated miner and metals manufacturer: core activities include merchant mining of manganese and iron ores, production of ferroalloys, operation of a coke oven plant and captive power (WHRB), and, since November 2024, specialty SBQ steel manufacturing through the strategic acquisition of Arjas Steel, creating a forward-integrated metal value chain.
Over the past three years SMIORE materially transformed its asset base: iron ore capacity was ramped from 1.60 MTPA to 4.45 MTPA and manganese to 0.599 MTPA, while the Arjas Steel acquisition added 0.585 MTPA steel capacity, repositioning SMIORE from a merchant miner to an integrated specialty-steel player with higher conversion potential.
